Why strain yourself carrying heavy boxes or reaching for items off the top shelf? Why consider a fork lift truck when a set of mobile safety steps or bridging units could be just as effective? Mobile warehouse safety steps are an essential piece of equipment when picking goods from levels over 2m. Mobile safety steps typically give access to high storage areas safely and are made up of strong tubular steel. They have systems to prevent slipping and the rungs are set into the posts to make them safer at work. From 2 feet to 10 feet tall, mobile safety steps are available in spring action, lever break, push and foot lock variants. They are designed for easy access where overhead clearance is limited. The folding handrail feature provides an overall height advantage, thus allowing access through common doorways. One can even keep the mobile ladders out of public areas to eliminate potential hazards.

These portable ladders are designed so as to rest on a stable, strong, suitably-sized, immobile footing so that the rungs remain horizontal. The feet of these mobile steps effectively prevent from slipping during use by securing the stiles at or near their upper or lower ends, by any anti-slip device or by any other arrangement of equivalent effectiveness. Mobile safety steps are the ultimate in safety and are capable of reducing workplace hazards to a great extent. Also known as warehouse steps, they offer a safe and strong solution for all professional and domestic needs. Mobile Steps are available in a range of sizes and colors with easy glide; all weather non-slip molding treads.

Built with super quality steel these mobile steps are not only safe but also very convenient to use. The castors are spring loaded and retract when weight is applied to the step giving the non-slip base a firm and safe grip to the floor. The circular pads grip the floor when load is applied and are efficient in preventing the entire structure from slipping. The strong welded steel construction and quality finish with ribbed rubber or anti-slip tread surfaces make these machines quite attractive. In every case the usability of these ladders are checked before putting into use. There is a wide range of mobile safety steps available in the market. They give access to high storage areas safely and folds down making them easy to move around the work area.

If mobile safety steps are not provided at workplaces then there is always the risk of staff climbing up the racks to access stock. This can lead to damaged shelving and accidents from falling. So in order to provide a simple platform to provide safe access of materials and reduce physical efforts and risks of workplace hazards mobile safety steps are an ideal solution.

Toyota Motor Corporation announced today that it has given its Pre-crash Safety System the ability to determine – as a world’s first [1] – whether a driver’s eyes are properly open. TMC expects this driver-monitoring breakthrough, along with the system’s current ability to determine the direction of the driver’s face, to play an important role in reducing collision-related damage.

The eye-monitoring feature, which is to be offered in vehicle models scheduled for launch in Japan in the near future, uses a driver-monitoring camera and image-processing computer to determine the position of the driver’s upper and lower eyelids. If the Pre-crash Safety System senses that a collision is imminent and also determines that the driver’s eyes are not properly open – or, by using the hitherto face-monitoring feature, determines that the driver is not facing forward – it issues a warning to the driver earlier than it would without such driver-condition information.

TMC believes that the development of driver-condition evaluation technologies is vital to improving overall vehicle safety performance, as driver condition is seen as a key factor in traffic safety, with driver error being the main cause of traffic accidents [2]. TMC is, thus, committed to continuing development of such technologies and to further enhancing its Pre-crash Safety System and other safety technologies.

As a part of its efforts to realize sustainable mobility, TMC intends to strengthen its traffic safety initiatives in the future through:

1) The development of even safer vehicles and technologies based on TMC’s Integrated Safety Management Concept [3]

2) participation in the creation of a safe traffic environment and

3) Activities designed to educate people in traffic safety, thereby contributing to the complete elimination of traffic casualties, which can be viewed as the ultimate hope of a society that values mobility.

1. As of December 2007, according to TMC survey.

2. According to a 2005 report by Japan’s Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis.

3. TMC’s safety technology and vehicle development concept, aimed at realizing vehicles that do not cause accidents by combining safety technologies and systems to provide optimal driving support based on actual driving conditions.

One that personally takes it’s users safety seriously from the get-go.

Most posting boards only offer abuse flagging. It’s all about “instant communications” said MissCindirella, founder of CoolEasyPost.com; however, safety always should come first. “The Cool Easy Post offers additional measures to help protect it’s users.”

“Open Posting Boards can be safe, says Misscindirella. If we did not feel this way, we would not release our board to the public. However older sites that have been more popular in the past are loosing the spotlight not taking the initial steps to incorporate new safety measures; leaving consumers who use their boards wide open for scams and dangerous situations to manifest. Or they wait until they are forced to make changes, which many times are still baby steps in that direction.” And that is a shame. Especially ones that have had the profits to make the changes necessary, but do not invest back into the consumer who made them so popular until they are forced to make changes.”

Even though most post are fairly safe, it only takes a few “bad apples” to turn into thousands, when you go from your local community to worldwide online. When one looks at the big picture in calculations this way you can understand why It only takes 1% to create serious issues for us all. And although no one can ensure someone else’s safety based on free will, online consumers can help avoid being a victim by using common sense and utilizing a few safety measures to lower those risk factors from these fraudulent and harmful people.”

Cool Easy Post has incorporated several safety tips and other measures for its open posting board.

1) The Cool Easy Buddy System. Meeting up with anyone “Blindfolded” from online is not safe nor smart. It’s just dangerous! No matter what the reason. From curb alerts to jobs, and other people connections. Instead…. Always play it smart by using ” The Cool Easy Buddy System” when meeting strangers “Off Line”. There are 5 initial steps, listed on their website at: http://www.cooleasypost.com/warnings.htm

2) Community flagging

3) Live monitors.

4) Hall Of Shame, blocking on probation periods to permanent blocking.

5) Warning pages, tips, and site notices.

6 ) In addition, Cool Easy Post has incorporated a new toolbar with additional safety measures. Its called “Alerts”.

Part of this toolbar is actually a desktop alert messenger. A very useful tool for “Instant Safety Alerts”. Users who plan on posting regularly can download this alert feature. When the Cool Easy Post discovers dangerous issues, scams, and fraudulent situations; administrators of the site will send an alert to all it’s users INSTANTLY, which pops up on the bottom of users desktop, keeping them safer by insuring they are aware of that knowledge.

The Cool Easy Post offers all these mixtures, created with those same goals in mind for our posting board users; for a safer yet exciting experience.

Anyone can download this new toolbar and safety alerts.

The term ” food safety” has increasingly been used as a replacement for the phrase ” food hygiene” and encompasses a whole range of issues that must be addressed if prepared food is to be safe to eat.

Food safety therefore includes such matters as the temperature control of food through storage, preparation and service, the avoidance of cross-contamination, cleanliness of food handlers, equipment and food premises, and pest control etc. etc. etc.

The old term ” food hygiene” probably put too much emphasis on cleanliness. That is not to say that cleanliness is not important in a food business, it obviously is, but food safety requires much more than a clean premises. Many outbreaks of food-borne disease were caused by clean food businesses.

The infamous E. coli O157 outbreak that occurred in Central Scotland in 1996 and resulted in the deaths of 19, was traced back to the butcher’s J Barr & Sons. At the public enquiry that followed the chairman said that Mr Barr ran a clean business, but what he didn’t run was a safe business.

A thorough review of food safety at J Barr & Sons would have revealed poor temperature control, cross-contamination risks and staff inadequately trained in food safety matters. In terms of food safety the methods of food preparation and handling are more important than the cleanliness of the shop’s floor and walls.

This move from the term ” food hygiene” to food safety has been reflected in UK food legislation and training courses for food handlers. The first regulations designed to control food businesses and prevent the rise of food poisoning cases were the Food Hygiene Regulations 1955. The use of the term ” food hygiene” continued in subsequent regulations in the 1960’s and 1970’s. It was not until 1995 before ” food safety” was used in the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995.

A similar change of term has occurred with regard to training courses which were originally called “Basic Food Hygiene” courses, and then “Foundation Courses in Food Hygiene” and more recently “Level 2 Awards in Food Safety in Catering/Retailing/Manufacturing.”

So, Food Safety is now the accepted term for the study and practical application of all the principles required to produce safe food for consumers.

The death of a man due to a Fall related accident in Sydney Australia, reminds us all of the extreme dangers of working at heights. This article refreshes our memory on the frequency and seriousness of Height Safety accidents. This article also introduces a three step risk management plan to eliminate these incidents.

Fall hazards are the construction industry’s main cause of death from traumatic injuries with 18 deaths having occurred in 2003 in Australia and New Zealand. They are also construction industry workers second largest cause of non-fatal workplace injuries. In Australia alone between 1997 and 2001, the construction industry generated around 1,600 fall-related workers’ compensation claims each year. This represents approximately 12% of all construction workers’ compensation claims.*

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1989, employers, persons in control of a workplace and self-employed persons must take all reasonably practicable steps to ensure that persons at or near the workplace are not exposed to health and safety risks. Preventing injury from falls is also a requirement under the Scaffolding and Lifts act 1912.

What can you do to prevent these height safety accidents? There is a three step risk management approach that can be implemented into any workplace. The first step is to identify the hazards, the second is to assess the risk and the third step is controlling the risk.

Controlling the risk can involve such measures as eliminating the hazard, by working on the ground as much as is practicable; substituting with a safer surface such as constructing temporary work platforms; remove workers from the hazard by using guardrails as physical barriers; and the use of personal protective equipment such as a hard hat which can minimise the risk of head injuries and safety harnesses which are secured into an anchor point or a safety line at the work site.

If your workplace engages contractors to undertake work, it is important to remember that there is a shared responsibility for health and safety and this requires cooperation and communication regarding risks associated with the work. You can not “contract out” your safety responsibilities for work or a workplace that you control.

The state Workcover websites can provide further information on both the rights and responsibilities for employers and employees. They have loads of information and provide all the up-to-date legislative requirements.
